GlaxoSmithKline Consumer Healthcare Ltd records high growth for Quarter 2 ended June 30, 2012

  •     Domestic Sales up by 15% and Net Profits up by 29%

GlaxoSmithKline Consumer Healthcare Limited (GSKCH) today declared its financial results for the second quarter ended June 30, 2012. Net Domestic sales recorded a healthy growth of 15% on account of higher net realisations and volume growth. The Export Sales are lower by 10% versus the same period in 2011 because of higher sales phasing in the base year. Total reported Sales at Rs 730 crores recorded a growth of 12% over the same period in 2011 with PBT at Rs 159 crores growing by 30% and PAT at Rs. 107 crores growing by 29%.

Commenting on the results, Mr. Zubair Ahmed, MD, GSKCH said, “GSKCH has shown consistent double digit growth over the years and the results of this quarter are also in-line with the company’s strong performance. We are continuously focusing on innovation and leveraging science to develop products for our expanding consumer base. Along with these, our cost efficiency initiatives and increased penetration across categories have helped us deliver superior results in a challenging business environment”

This quarter also saw the launch of the Horlicks Aahar Abhiyan, an initiative targeting the widespread malaise of Malnutrition in India. 40% of world’s severely malnourished children live here and one out of two children in India is malnourished. Horlicks Aahar Abhiyan is a unique initiative from GSKCH that aims to partner with Horlicks consumers to raise funds for spreading awareness, training health workers and supporting the community to eradicating this malaise. With the sale of every bottle of Horlicks, GSK will contribute INR 1, with a minimum commitment of Rs 50 Lakhs, to our NGO partner - the highly respected “Child In Need Institute (CINI)”. The program is being run for duration of eight weeks across the state of West Bengal in India and will reach to 10000 children and 15000 families, with the objective of reducing early childhood malnutrition.
