Horlicks marks Pongal celebrations with the Mega Kolam Fest
    

More than 1000 people participated in Horlicks’ attempt to create the record for the Biggest Kolam

Chennai, January 16, 2014: GlaxoSmithKline Consumer Healthcare’s flagship brand Horlicks marked Pongal celebrations in Chennai with the Horlicks Kolam Fest. The Fest was joined by more than 1000 enthusiastic citizens of Chennai, along with popular celebrity Gayathri, as they joined Horlicks in an attempt to create the record for the biggest Kolam and enter the Limca Book of Records. Horlicks and its consumers came together on the occasion to celebrate the festival in a grand way and bring alive the traditional practices of Tamil Nadu. In addition, Horlicks will make Pongal joyous for underprivileged children suffering from under-nutrition in Chennai, in association with Save the Children.

An integral part of Pongal festivities, Kolam, an art form that is drawn using rice powder in South India, is widely practiced by family members in front of their homes. Taking cue from this, Horlicks, along with the residents of Chennai, celebrated the tradition in a Mega way. Consumers joined the Horlicks Kolam Fest at the Singaram Pillai Tennis and Cricket Ground, Villivakkam, and participated in an attempt to create the Record for the biggest Kolam. The Fest witnessed a large gathering of people as more than 1000 residents of Chennai came together to draw the Kolam. The celebrations were joined by popular celebrity Gayathrie and R.J Vishnupriya, R.J Navalakshmi and R.J Krishna from Suryan FM.

A spokesperson of Save the Children, said, “We are glad to partner with Horlicks and make an effort to address the issue of under-nutrition among children in Chennai. It is a grave concern that plagues our country today and every effort made in this regard can make a difference to a child. We are delighted to witness the overwhelming participation by residents of Chennai at the Horlicks Kolam Fest and urge everyone to join the fight against under-nutrition among children.”

Speaking about the Fest, celebrity Gayathrie said, “Festivals are a special time for people to come together and celebrate. I am glad that Horlicks has taken the initiative to highlight the age-old tradition of drawing a Kolam during Pongal and has given the people of Chennai an opportunity to be a part of perhaps the biggest Kolam. I am excited to be a part of the festivities.”
