Indian College of Obstetrics & Gynaecologists and GlaxoSmithKline Consumer Healthcare join hands to achieve educational excellence in the field of pregnancy and supplementation during the course of pregnancy

Patna, February 04, 2014: Indian College of Obstetrics & Gynaecologists (ICOG) and GlaxoSmithKline Consumer Healthcare Limited (GSK) today came together to launch a scientific education programme by ICOG titled IGNITE for gynaecologist and obstetricians. The programme was unveiled at the 57th All India Congress of Obstetrics and gynaecologists (AICOG) hosted at Bihar Veterinary College, Patna. Through this programme, ICOG will enable gynaecologist and obstetricians to update them with the latest information on some key topics in the field of obstetrics.

Delighted about this initiative Dr Jaideep Malhotra Secretary ICOG, who is also a renowned ART practitioner and President elect of ASPIRE (Asia Pacific initiative on Reproduction) said, ICOG (Indian college of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists) is the academic wing of FOGSI (Federation of obstetrics & Gynecological Societies of India) and has a vision to
1. Promote education, training and spread of knowledge in the field of Obstetrics and Gynecology
2. To popularize the Indian College nationally and internationally
3. To help raise the standards of education and practice in our country
And with this aim in mind multiple activities are planned and executed.

In this year, one such programme is being planned with the educational support from GlaxoSmithKline (GSK) is IGNITE (Icog Glaxo joiNt Initiative Towards educational Excellence).IGNITE will comprise of 80 Master classes on various Topics of great value in improving the understanding and inculcating evidence based practice amongst the Obs and Gyn practitioners of India.

This one year, experts from the FOGSI-ICOG will prepare peer reviewed modules on the chosen topics with the aim of educating the recent changing trends in management of many upcoming diseases and how the lack of good preconceptional care and nutrition leads to early origin of many adverse health issues and diseases. This initiative will aim at improving the knowledge, attitude and practice of Obs and gyn fraternity in understanding reproductive endocrinology and learn new applications of this knowledge through simple, yet very effective measures.

The faculty will consist of Top level members of FOGSI-ICOG under the leadership of President FOGSI Dr Suchitra Pandit and Chairman ICOG Dr Atul Munshi researchers, professors from medical colleges and young upcoming fellows, and faculty who have pledged their time and interest in raising the standards of education and practice in our country. ICOG thanks GSK for this generous educational support for the same and hopes to use it for the purpose effectively.
